Wizz Air Plans to Resume Flights to Ukraine: Estimated Timelines Announced

Low-cost airline Wizz Air, which recently launched new flights from Bucharest to the Canary Islands, plans to resume its operations in Ukraine as soon as a ceasefire is announced. The company aims to restart approximately 30 routes within the next six weeks.

"We have a clear plan to resume flights to Ukraine, and I think this could happen at any moment," said Wizz Air CEO József Váradi in an interview with Reuters. "Once a ceasefire is announced, we will consider the possibility of restarting flights."

According to the European Union Aviation Safety Agency's estimates, it will take six to eight weeks to ensure the safe reopening of Ukraine's airspace, and Wizz Air is preparing for this process. Additionally, the airline confirmed that within six months of the war’s end, it plans to resume operations at its Kyiv and Lviv bases.

Before the war in 2021, Wizz Air ranked third in the Ukrainian market with a 10.1% share.
